The Art of Choosing Yourself
Come sit beside the fire, Libra.
The evening is cool enough for a soft blanket now, and the trees are beginning to let go of their summer colors. There is something beautiful about watching autumn make its choices without apologizing for them.
A leaf doesn’t ask whether the others will approve when it is time to fall.
A tree doesn’t wonder whether letting go means it has failed.
Nature simply knows when something has completed its season.
October may bring you a similar realization:
Choosing what is right for you does not make you unkind.
You have a natural gift for considering other people’s perspectives. You can see more than one side. You understand nuance. You often know how to soften a difficult moment without denying what is true.
But there comes a point when keeping everything balanced around you begins to cost you your own balance.
October asks:
What happens when you include yourself in the equation?
ACT ONE — What Do You Truly Value?
October begins with Venus, your ruling planet, retrograde in Scorpio.
For you, this brings attention to money, resources, possessions, self-worth, and the deeper question underneath all of them:
What is actually valuable to me now?
This may not be only about finances.
You may find yourself reconsidering what your time is worth.
What your energy is worth.
What your attention is worth.
What you are willing to give—and what you are no longer willing to give away simply because someone expects it.
Venus retrograde can make familiar patterns suddenly visible.
Perhaps you notice where you’ve been overgiving.
Perhaps you recognize that something you’ve been calling “generosity” has occasionally been an attempt to maintain peace.
Perhaps you discover that something you once desperately wanted no longer carries the same meaning.
There is no failure in that.
People change.
Values change.
Seasons change.
And sometimes the most honest thing you can say is:
“That mattered to me once. It simply doesn’t matter in the same way anymore.”
On October 10 at 11:50 AM EDT, the New Moon arrives at 17°22′ Libra, bringing a beautiful reset directly into your sense of identity, presence, and personal direction.
This is your invitation to begin again—not by becoming someone new, but by becoming more fully yourself.
Ask yourself:
Who am I when I’m not trying to keep everyone else comfortable?
What do I want when I allow my own desires to have a voice?
What version of me is ready to step forward?
You don’t need permission.
The New Moon is quietly handing it to you.
RULING PLANET THEME — Venus Comes Home
Libra, your ruling planet Venus is the storyteller of your October.
And Venus is taking you on quite a journey.
She begins the month retrograde in Scorpio, asking you to examine value, reciprocity, resources, and self-worth.
By October 25 at 5:09 AM EDT, Venus retrogrades back into Libra.
And suddenly the question changes.
It is no longer simply:
“What do I value?”
It becomes:
“Who am I becoming?”
Venus returning to your sign can feel like someone turning the lights back on in a room you had forgotten belonged to you.
You may become more aware of your appearance, your presence, your desires, your relationships, your boundaries, and the subtle ways you’ve adapted yourself to fit circumstances that may no longer fit you.
This isn’t about becoming more pleasing.
It’s about becoming more authentic.
Venus is reminding you that harmony doesn’t mean everyone gets what they want.
Sometimes harmony means you are no longer abandoning yourself to create it.
And that may be one of October’s most important lessons for you.
ACT TWO — Love Without Losing Yourself
There is a deeper relationship story unfolding underneath the surface this month.
Saturn, Neptune, and Chiron remain retrograde in Aries, bringing attention to partnership, commitment, boundaries, and the ways you meet another person without losing your own center.
This can be profound for Libra.
You understand partnership.
You know how to compromise.
You know how to consider another person’s feelings.
But healthy partnership isn’t supposed to require you to disappear inside it.
Saturn asks:
What makes a relationship sustainable?
Neptune asks:
Where have you idealized something because you wanted it to be beautiful?
Chiron asks:
Where have old wounds influenced the way you relate, trust, or protect yourself?
October doesn’t ask you to become suspicious of love.
It asks you to become more honest inside love.
There is a difference.
You can love someone deeply and still have boundaries.
You can understand someone’s perspective without agreeing with it.
You can care about someone’s feelings without taking responsibility for managing them.
And you can choose yourself without choosing against someone else.
That last one may be especially important this month.
ACT THREE — Your People, Your Future, Your Joy
Mars and Jupiter continue traveling together through Leo throughout October, illuminating friendships, community, social connections, hopes, dreams, and the future you’re building.
This is beautiful energy for remembering that life isn’t only about intimate relationships.
You need your people.
The friends who make you laugh.
The people who understand your strange little stories.
The communities where you don’t have to explain every part of yourself.
The dreams that make you feel alive when you imagine the years ahead.
Mars brings courage to these areas of life.
Jupiter expands them.
You may feel ready to participate more fully in something that excites you—or reconnect with people who remind you who you are outside of your responsibilities.
There is a particular kind of healing that happens when you are surrounded by people who don’t require you to perform.
You can simply show up.
Laugh.
Create.
Dream.
Be yourself.
And on October 15 at 10:40 PM EDT, Pluto stations direct at 3°04′ Aquarius, bringing renewed movement to your creative life, joy, romance, self-expression, and the parts of you that simply want to play again.
This is important.
Because Libra can become so skilled at being socially appropriate that sometimes the wild, spontaneous, playful self gets tucked away.
Pluto says:
Bring that person back.
You don’t have to justify joy.
You don’t have to make it productive.
You don’t have to turn everything you love into something useful.
Some things are allowed to exist simply because they make your heart light up.
WHEN VENUS TURNS THE MIRROR TOWARD YOU
As October progresses, the emphasis becomes increasingly personal.
The Sun enters Scorpio on October 23 at 5:38 AM EDT, bringing greater illumination to your values, resources, and self-worth.
Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio on October 24 at 3:12 AM EDT at 20°59′ Scorpio, asking you to reconsider how you speak about money, security, worth, and what you believe you need in order to feel safe.
And on October 25, Venus returns to Libra.
It’s almost as though the month has brought you through a long hallway of mirrors and finally turned one directly toward you.
Look.
Not critically.
Lovingly.
Who is standing there?
Maybe you’re not the same person who entered this year.
Maybe some old expectations don’t fit anymore.
Maybe you’re finally realizing that balance isn’t about making everything equal.
Sometimes balance means giving yourself the same compassion you’ve spent years giving everyone else.
THE FULL MOON — What We Share, What We Trust
On October 26 at 12:12 AM EDT, the Full Moon arrives at 2°45′ Taurus.
This Full Moon takes the emotional conversation deeper into trust, intimacy, shared resources, vulnerability, and the things that cannot be measured simply by what belongs to you individually.
It may illuminate where you feel secure—and where you don’t.
What are you willing to share?
What do you need in order to feel safe enough to be vulnerable?
Where are you holding on because releasing control feels frightening?
Where might receiving be just as important as giving?
The Taurus Full Moon doesn’t demand drama.
It prefers honesty.
And perhaps the most beautiful thing you discover is that true intimacy doesn’t require you to surrender yourself.
It requires you to bring your whole self into the room.
HIGHLIGHTS ON LOVE
October is a significant relationship month for Libra—but not because the universe is asking you to find or keep someone.
It is asking you to remain connected to yourself while loving another person.
Venus retrograde begins in Scorpio, asking questions about value, reciprocity, security, and what you give and receive.
Saturn, Neptune, and Chiron retrograde in Aries bring deeper questions about partnership itself.
Are you able to be honest?
Are boundaries respected?
Can both people have needs?
Can you disagree without threatening the relationship?
Can love make room for two whole people?
And when Venus returns to Libra on October 25, the spotlight turns toward you.
Not in a selfish way.
In a necessary way.
What does love look like when you no longer abandon yourself to preserve it?
If you’re in a relationship, October may encourage a more honest conversation about equality, emotional responsibility, shared resources, and the freedom to remain individuals within the relationship.
If you’re single, this month may help you become clearer about the difference between chemistry and compatibility, attraction and safety, being wanted and being genuinely valued.
Love should not require you to become less yourself.
The right kind of love gives you room to become more.
QUESTIONS TO PONDER
As you sit beside the October fire, Libra, consider:
- What am I choosing because I genuinely want it—and what am I choosing simply to keep the peace?
- Where have I been giving more than I comfortably have to give?
- What does my time and energy truly feel worth to me?
- Who am I becoming now that I know more about myself?
- Where can I practice healthier boundaries without closing my heart?
- What brings me uncomplicated joy?
- What would change if I included myself in every decision—not above everyone else, but alongside them?
YOUR OCTOBER MANTRA
“I can choose myself without closing my heart. I honor my needs, trust my values, and allow healthy love to meet me as the whole person I am.”
CLOSING BLESSING
Libra, perhaps October’s greatest gift is this:
You don’t have to choose between being loving and being true to yourself.
You can be both.
You can be compassionate without becoming responsible for everyone’s emotions.
You can compromise without abandoning yourself.
You can listen without surrendering your own truth.
You can love deeply without losing your center.
So tonight, imagine yourself sitting beside that autumn fire, wrapped in something warm, watching sparks rise into the dark Michigan sky.
Let the fire remind you of something nature has always known:
Not everything needs to remain exactly as it was.
Some things are meant to change.
Some things are meant to fall away.
Some things are meant to return.
And some things—perhaps the most important things—are meant to bring you home to yourself.
You are allowed to choose the life that feels beautiful from the inside out.
And Libra, you don’t have to apologize for finally including yourself in the picture.

With love & light,
Michelle
